The Bergische Universität

Since 1972 the Bergische Universität Wuppertal has been offering an unconventional and creative mixture of scientific disciplines and study courses. The total of around 14,000 students have the choice between seven different faculties - engineering and natural sciences and teaching and arts courses, the latter in particular with the emphasis on design. This enables many possibilities of multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary work, which are used to a great extent, e.g. in co-operation between engineering sciences and business sciences.

Studies and teaching are here linked closely to research, and there are also special research institutes devoted entirely to research - both within the university and as external departments outside the university.

With the foundation of further institutes in the planned Competence Centres of the region, university know-how will be even more readily available to the companies of the "Bergisch Triangle".

A national comparison carried out every tow years showed that the Bergische Universität creates the ideal conditions for new companies founded by recent university-leavers. The ranking confirmed that the Wuppertal University really does set the standard amongst German higher-education institutes when it comes to the requirements for founding new businesses!

As a result, it is justifiably considered to be Germany’s top university for establishing new companies! This outstanding result is due above all to the "bizeps" program, aimed at the requirements of innovative young companies.
