An important flagship project of the development of the southern inner city in Solingen will be the conversion of the former main railway station into a Product Design Forum. Here will be created an institution unique in Germany, surrounded by attractive commercial and residential areas, and directly adjoining the Technology Centre.

Solingen companies have already won numerous awards in the field of product design, and this potential will now be given an additional boost.

As an interface between research and business, the Product Design Forum will also accommodate an external department of the "Bergische Universität". Together with the regional economy, the "Bergische Institut für Produktentwicklung und Innovationsmanagement" ("Bergisch Institute for Product Development and Innovation Management") has been founded, where students and undergraduates have the opportunity to develop innovative product ideas.

Display and sales areas are provided for the presentation of the products. Further services will include education and further training, design marketing and communication, product development support and support of company and sector networks.

Yet another location factor in favour of the "Bergisch Triangle" is that the medium-sized company culture in particular will now have the opportunity of treading new paths in the field of product development and product marketing.
