Defining, networking and organising regional competences:

many small and medium-sized companies, and above all highly specialised companies, have in some cases already been based for generations in the commercial region of the "Bergisch Triangle". Many of these are now active throughout the world, and have prompted structural change within the region.

Most of them work quietly, almost unseen and in complete isolation. In order to promote and bring together co-operative efforts, the transfer of know-how and the presentation of the capabilities of the region, competence centres are now being established in line with the special commercial features of the relevant town.

Central points of contact and forums are being established to fulfil the following tasks:

Support of sector networks

Further training· Communicative exchange

Presentation facilities for products and services

Services and consulting for smaller companies

Assistance with founding new companies and revitalising existing businesses

Practical research in co-operation with and as an external office of the University

The competence centres will thus serve to develop and promote local strengths, making the region fit for the future.

Local strengths will be combined and networked, opening up additional identification and marketing opportunities for the regional economy and establishing new facilities, including the services of the University.
